Peabody Care Center, Focused on Resident Choice

Sitting on a full city block, Peabody Care Center is surrounded by a spacious lawn and multiple flower bed, which several residents have maintained themselves. Culture Change is a big part at the Peabody Care Center and is exemplified by resident choice.

The facility currently has 35 private, dual certified Medicare and Medicaid rooms on the general nursing floor in addition to a 9 room Alzheimer's Unit. Peabody Care Center is also licensed for 19 Residential Care beds.

The nursing floor features a wireless call system (eliminating annoying buzzers and lights), a courtyard area where residents can enjoy coffee and the newspaper prior to breakfast as well as casual conversations throughout the day. Activities are scheduled regularly that bring the community school children, senior citizens, and ages between into the building. Of course many activities are self contained and resident participation is encouraged. Dining emphasizes resident choices and includes a salad bar and desert cart.

As a skilled nursing facility, the Peabody Care Center, provides 24 hour nursing care as well as physical, occupational, and speech therapy as prescribed by the individual resident's physician. Staff for the facility comes from the surrounding farm community. Staff members care for individuals they have often know for their entire lives. The facility has a comfortable, home atmosphere.

Alzheimer's Unit

The Alzheimer's Unit emphasizes a calm and predictable environment for those afflicted with dementia. As a separate wing of the building, residents have fewer distractions to deal with through the course of the day. Consistent staffing eases the difficulty of remembering faces and roles. Of course, if someone gets their 'days and nights turned around' for awhile, it does not pose a problem. Our staff is there to meet their needs.

Residential Care Program

Our Residential Care Program offers 10 studio apartments; 6 'small' 2 room apartments; and 3 'large' 2 room apartments. Meal service, medication management, laundry, housekeeping, activities, cable TV and assistance with activities of daily living are provided. The only thing not included is phone service! There is no initial deposit nor is there a 'level of care' charge. The Peabody Care Center Residential Care Program is a participant in the Home and Community Based Services [HCBS] program and works closely with case managers to provide maximum independence for individuals needing some level of assistance.
